The Potomac-Garrett State Forest, 11,535 acres situated between the towns of Oakland and Westernport and partially bordering the Potomac River, is reached from Maryland Routes 135 and 560.

Garrett State Forest is the birthplace of forestry conservation in Maryland.

Swallow Falls State Park is located nine miles north of Oakland, Maryland and contains some of Maryland’s most breathtaking scenery.

Herrington Manor State Park was designated as a state park in 1964, and encompasses 365 acres.
